Painting leaves

Inspired by Rosie’s painting. 😄 She first started with green lines. Then she painted smaller, uniform marks: blue, purple and yellow. And then she swapped her paintbrush for a thin stick and began adding bright dots to each plant, like morning dew, intensifying their uniqueness. I thought about her when I was drawing the stems and petals, it felt like meditating, like knitting… “one by one… all is fine… we are connected”. 🌿

Aboriginal painting inspiration

I’d like to share with you the image inspired in Margaret’s painting. She talked about the Therrpeyt (bush medicine) and how you can boil it, drink it and it makes you better if you have a cold. What I love about the ARTISTS OF AMPILATWATJA project is that you are given the time to contemplate a painting being made and you feel connected to the artist and the person. When I saw her canvas I noticed a little stream, a vibrant blue line, a landmark in the middle of a pattern. I knew she had visited this place many times and although its shape was abstract and minimal in her painting, it felt real… her story is real… the wisdom behind her words are real. That was my inspiration. 🌿

Australian Desert

“People used to hunt in the olden days and showed the young ones where to go to get food.” This is what Kathleen says while painting her beautiful desert. She’s a traveller like me, and her work and story inspired this image. 🌿

The Little Prince illustration

"If, for example, you come at four o'clock in the afternoon, then at three o'clock I shall begin to be happy. I shall feel happier and happier as the hour advances. At four o'clock, I shall already be worrying and jumping about. I shall show you how happy I am! But if you come at just any time, I shall never know at what hour my heart is to be ready to greet you . . . One must observe the proper rites"
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Dedicated to all tamed creatures, including myself.
With love, Ana

Gatito con botas ~ Puss in boots

I developed this image to participate in the "Fixionaria Historias Ilustradas" contest. The topic was "Puss in Boots", and this is a book cover design. Here I share with you the process:

1- First I selected the sketch from a group of ideas I had in my visual diary and started working out the colours and composition in photoshop:

2- At this stage I realised that I was looking for more simple shapes as well as less contrasted and warmer colours. So I decided to try Illustrator. Note how evil that little cat looks without the contour lines!

3- Here I included the background characters: the king, the marquee and the princess. I almost gave the windmill's son an afro hairstyle! :)

4- It was kind of difficult to draw the kitty's face in Illustrator, and I thought it would be good to add some textures, so I continued working in Photoshop:

5- To unify the colours and create a sense of volume I drew golden curved lines along the mountains, to suggest the idea of cultivated fields.

6- And finally I began to play with textures and shadows to make the image dirty, rusty and old :)

Listening to Bizet, Rodrigo and Nigel Westlake :)

©2011. Ferdinando

I created these images while listening to the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra... they came spontaneously, as they often do when listening to music. The little bull reminds me of Ferdinand, that cute, sweet character that moves so smoothly in Disney's adaptation of the story by Munro Leaf. What do you think? The one with the guitar player was made while watching Slava Grigoryan play... Amazing! And the one with the naked woman was built while listening to Nigel Westlake's Antartica Suite: Wooden Ships. I was so taken by it, so inspired!... I'm sure it will be floating in the background of my studio during many creative days to come :)

©2011. Guitarrista
