Dance as sequence ~ La danza como secuencia

Dance, cinema and animation are similar. Even in situations of stillness, if we stop time, we can perceive evident marks of what has happened and what is yet to come, physically and emotionally. We suddenly face the palpable edge of an open dramatic question. This is why I decided to create a sequence of images that helped me to accentuate the artwork's feeling of movement and rhythm.

La danza, el cine y la animación son similares. Aún en momentos de quietud, si detenemos el tiempo, podemos percibir huellas evidentes de lo que ocurrió y lo que está por venir, física y emocionalmente. De repente nos encontramos cara a cara con el borde palpable de una pregunta dramática abierta. Por esto decidí realizar una secuencia de imágenes que me ayudaran a acentuar la sensación de movimiento y ritmo en la obra.

Illustration Mundo is a fantastic community of illustrators around the world. I'm happy to be part of it, and love visiting it often to to keep on learning from all those talented artists I admire so much!
I also have been following Nate William's blog for some time... his tips are really helpful, inspiring and clear. I truly recommend it! :)

Illustration Mundo es una comunidad de ilustradores internacionales fantástica. Me encanta visitarla seguido para seguir aprendiendo de todos esos artistas que admiro tanto y me alegra poder ser parte de ella. Hace un tiempito he venido siguiendo el blog de Nate William's... sus consejos son buenísimos para ilustradores emergentes. Gatito con botas ~ Puss in boots

Hice esta imagen para participar en el concurso de ilustración de "Fixionaria Historias Ilustradas".  El tema era "El gato con Botas", y este es un diseño de portada. Aquí les comparto el proceso:

I developed this image to participate in the "Fixionaria Historias Ilustradas" contest. The topic was "Puss in Boots", and this is a book cover design. Here I share with you the process:


1- Primero escogí el boceto dentro de muchos en mi diario visual y empecé a trabajar los colores y la composición en photoshop:
1- First I selected the sketch from a group of ideas I had in my visual diary and started working out the colours and composition in photoshop:

2- En este momento me di cuenta de que estaba buscando formas más limpias y colores un poco más cálidos y menos contrastados. Así que decidí ensayar en Illustrator. Nóten lo diabólico que se ve el gatito sin contornos!
2- At this stage I realised that I was looking for more simple shapes as well as less contrasted and warmer colours. So I decided to try Illustrator. Note how evil that little cat looks without the contour lines!

3- Aquí añadí los personajes del fondo: el rey, el marqués y la princesa. Casi le pongo afro al hijo del molinero! :)
3- Here I included the background characters: the king, the marquee and the princess. I almost gave the windmill's son an afro hairstyle! :)

4- Dibujarle la carita al gato me costó trabajo en Illustrator, y pensé que sería bueno añadir algunas texturas, así que continué trabajando en Photoshop:
4- It was kind of difficult to draw the kitty's face in Illustrator, and I thought it would be good to add some textures, so I continued working in Photoshop:

5- Para unificar los colores y crear una sensación de volumen dibujé líneas curvas y doradas a lo largo de las montañas, que hicieran pensar en campos cultivados.
5- To unify the colours and create a sense of volume I drew golden curved lines along the mountains, to suggest the idea of cultivated fields.

6- Y finalmente comencé a jugar con texturas y sombras para oxidar, ensuciar y envejecer la imagen :)
6- And finally I began to play with textures and shadows to make the image dirty, rusty and old :)

¡¡¡Sàlvia, encargada de hacer publicaciones en los blogs de la biblioteca de Cocentaina (Alicante, España) ha tenido el detalle de compartir unas de mis ilustraciones en un par de sus revistas digitales!!!
